Great News!

Well, today was the big day! It was Mason's first visit to the Doctor since he broke his leg. I was nervous all day long, so I knew we had to keep busy! We let Mason sleep until about 8:30am since his Doctors appointment was right during his nap time and knew that he would probably only take a cat nap in the car to the appointment. When we woke him, he ate brekky, and then we headed to creche for Shabbat at around 9:30am. We went last week too! Creche has been so amazing... they keep telling me to bring Mason in so he continues to see the kids and the kids see him in his cast. We arrived to Creche just in time for shabbat to start. We sang, did the prayers, ate challah, drank wine (grape juice), etc. He was so happy to be there! After the shabbat activities, Mason wanted to play outside with his friends in the sandbox... he could have played in the sand all day! We stayed till about 11am, and then headed home for lunch... Mason ate, scooted around on his scooter for a little bit, and then we headed to get Mike so we could go into the city for Mason's appointment. Mason dozed on and off in the car until we arrived at the doctor's office at 1:30. We went straight in for an x-ray. Mason was such a brave boy. He was looked at the BIG x-ray camera and we told him to smile, so he smiled the whole time... it was so cute!

After the technician took a few x-ray's we headed to the Doctors office and waited for a few minutes. Dr. Nattrass arrived and chatted to Mason for a bit, and then pulled up the x-ray's and was amazed how quickly Mason's spinal fracture was healing... He said that the x-rays look like there was hardly a break at all!!! He said that the cast could come off in two weeks! Mike and I were so relieved and excited to hear such amazing news! We chatted for a few about how Mason would need to be asleep to take the cast off, so we would be going back to Cabrini for the procedure. Dr. Nattrass said that at this young age it is quite traumatizing for this little kids to experience getting a full body cast taken off and they tend to wiggle a lot, so it's safest to put them out. We booked Mason in to get his cast removed on Thursday 18 August at 11am. 13 days from today and only 12 sleeps!!!

We also asked Dr. Nattrass about the recovery period and how long it would be until Mason would walk again. He told us it could take a few days or even weeks and that the worst thing we could do was to rush him. He said no physical therapy was recommended because he was too young and that the best therapy would be to go swimming! Thankfully Mason is a fish, so we will be taking full advantage of that! He also mentioned that Mase could have a limp for a few months and that this was COMPLETELY normal, and it WILL eventually go away. I'm most nervous about that!

I'm so happy that we actually have an end to this...I'm now counting down the days. I've been on such a high today since our visit to the Doctor! Dr. Nattrass has been unreal and we are so lucky that he was already working on someone else when we arrived at the hospital on Monday 18 July at 6pm with our poor little Mason who broke his femur! He has such amazing credentials and we are so blessed!

Let the countdown BEGIN!!!!
